Broth for Weight Loss? Think Glutamine and the Gut


Can broth help us maintain a perfect weight?   Many old diet books advise we start each meal with a cup of broth or a bowl of soup.  The commonsense idea is to fill up sooner, eat less and meet our weight loss goals.

Now a pilot study from Brazil suggests that glutamine could help us build a healthy microbiome with a ratio of firmicutes to bacteroidetes bacteria found in people of normal, healthy weight. While this news will surely drive supplement sales, Dr. Kaayla Daniel points out that glutamine is a “conditionally essential amino acid”  found abundantly in bone broth.
